Walkability!

The junior class were lucky enough to take part in a Walkability session this week!

During the theory lesson they explored topics such as road safety, pedestrian awareness, and the role of pavements, crossings, and traffic signals.

They then took part in the practical session, where they assessed how easy and safe it was to walk around the local area by following a set route to the Methodist Church. As a group, they walked from the school along the nearby streets, carefully observing features that affect walkability such as pavement width, road crossings, traffic levels and general safety. While walking to the Methodist Church, they noted whether there were safe places to cross the road, and how accessible the route was for pedestrians.

Overall, the session was both enjoyable and beneficial, giving the children the opportunity to develop greater awareness and confidence as pedestrians!
